Sprue Cutter

1-1/2" Diameter

A Sprue Cutter is a tool used to cut openings in your sand mold to use for pouring in molten metal. The sprue cutter forms a clean, tight, opening that connects to your runner or gate. It can also be used to cut risers.

Tapered Sprue Cutters help choke the flow when pouring and ease core removal. Straight Sprue Cutters compress the sand less during insertion and are less likely to disturb the mold.

#6908-008 straight sprue cutter:

#6908-012 straight sprue cutter:

Bottom Outer Diameter: 1-1/2"

Length: 12"

Material Thickness: .023"

Material: Chrome Plated Brass"

How To Use It:

After ramming up both the cope and drag with molding sand the sprue cutter is pressed into the sand to cut a path thru the cope into your mold. Then the mold is opened, and gates or runners are cut to connect your mold cavity to the sprue channel. The sprue cutter can be pressed in farther than the parting line to create a catch basin in the drag half to stop sand that might get washed off during pouring from entering the mold cavity. After pressing in the cutter give it a 1/4 turn and pull it out. Covering the end of the sprue cutter with the palm of the hand will aid in creating a "suction" to pull out the sand plug.
